The National Electoral Commission (NEC) of Tanzania has just announced the results of the 2022 Population and Housing Census, which shows that the electoral roll is expected to have 34,746,638 voters in 2024. This represents an increase of 18, 7% or 5,586,433 Compared to the 2020 registration, 4,369,531 voters are expected to update their information, while 594,494 voters will be removed from the rolls due to losing their voter ID.

In preparation for the voter registration update, the NEC inspected the voter registration centers and decided that 40,126 centers would be used for this task. This is to ensure that the voter registration system is efficient and accessible to all eligible voters.

The INEC also announced the launch of the Online Voter Registration System (OVRS) to facilitate the registration and updating of voter information. OVRS is an online platform that allows eligible voters to register, update their information, and check their registration status. The system is designed to improve the accuracy and completeness of the electoral register, as well as reduce the time and costs associated with manual registration.

To access the OVRS, eligible candidates must visit the INEC website and create an account. Once registered, voters can update their information, including their names, addresses and photos. The system also allows voters to check their registration status and receive notification of any changes to their registration.

The INEC has also announced that it will hire staff to assist in the voter registration process. The recruitment process will be competitive and selected candidates will be required to complete training to ensure they know how to register and use the OVRS.

Finally, the INEC is taking important steps to improve the accuracy and completeness of voter registration in Tanzania. The use of technology such as OVRS should simplify the registration process and make it accessible to eligible voters. The INEC is also committed to ensuring that the registration process is fair and transparent and that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

If you are interested in working with INEC, we encourage you to check the INEC website regularly for information on vacancies and application procedures. Selected applicants will be notified through the INEC website or other communication channels. It is therefore important to provide accurate and up-to-date information during the application process.

Finally, the INEC is committed to ensuring the success of voter registration and calls on all eligible voters to participate in this process. By registering and updating their information, voters can help ensure that the electoral roll is accurate, complete and up-to-date, and that their voices are heard in the democratic process.
